Union Meetings
LSSA’s shops are expected to hold meetings at least once monthly, preferably at a regularly scheduled time and day.
Membership meetings are held at least once a year to elect officers (in September unless continuing contract negotiations necessitate postponement). Additional membership meetings may also be scheduled, most commonly to consider ratification of contract demands and proposed settlements.
Delegate Assembly and Executive Committee Meetings
LSSA as a whole holds regularly scheduled monthly (except August) meetings of the Delegate Assembly, and between these meetings regularly scheduled monthly meetings of the Executive Committee (see governance). All of these meetings are open to all members, and every member is encouraged to attend such a meeting at least once. These meetings are held in the conference room at the union office at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise announced. Food is provided, and reimbursement for necessary childcare is available.
Community Action Program (CAP) Council Meetings
LSSA also participates in meetings of the area council of the UAW Community Action Program (CAP), regularly scheduled for the third Thursday each month.
LSSA typically fully finances the participation of members in the UAW CAP lobbying conference held in February or March of each year in Albany.
NOLSW National Joint Council (NJC) Meetings
Every eighteen months, LSSA selects a delegation of members to represent us at the National Joint Council (NJC), the training and governance convention of our parent local, the National Organization of Legal Services Workers (NOLSW). The NJC is generally held in Las Vegas in June and January of alternating years. More information about the NJC is available on the NOLSW website at www.NOLSW.org, and the LSSA policy with respect to selection and funding of the LSSA delegation is posted, together with other LSSA policies, in the governance section of this website. A most recent NJC was held in January 2015.
